Pittsburgh International Airport –
Terminal Modernization Program
(PIT Transformed)

Electrical Contractor: Lighthouse Electric
Owner: Allegheny County Airport Authority
Project Type: Infrastructure / Transportation
Location: Pittsburgh International Airport – Imperial, PA
Completion: November 18, 2025

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Electrical contractor Lighthouse Electric installed the power and lighting systems that support the entire terminal, from passenger areas and operational systems to architectural features throughout the building.

Their work includes the specialized lighting that defines the space, such as the “constellation” ceiling in the departures area and uplighting integrated into the structural design elements.

WHAT THE ELECTRICAL WORK SUPPORTED

As Pittsburgh’s primary airport, the terminal serves as a gateway to the region. The new design improves efficiency by reducing travel time within the airport, eliminating the need for a tram, and streamlining passenger flow.

These improvements enhance the overall travel experience while reducing operational costs, reinforcing the airport’s role as a key piece of regional infrastructure.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

The Pittsburgh International Airport Terminal Modernization Program (PIT Transformed) reimagined the airport by combining previously separate landside and airside terminals into one unified building. By building between existing concourses, the new design eliminates the need for a tram system and creates a more efficient, streamlined travel experience.

The new terminal features open spaces, high ceilings, and design elements inspired by Pittsburgh’s identity, including a yellow bridge reminiscent of the Fort Pitt Bridge and architectural lighting that enhances the overall passenger experience.

COOL FACT

The departures ceiling features approximately 6,000 individual “stars” designed to resemble constellations in the night sky — all installed by electricians as part of the project.
