Penn State Beaver Stadium –
North Scoreboard & Stadium Winterization
Electrical Contractor: TSB Inc. dba Schultheis Electric
Project Type: Recreational / Sports & Entertainment
Location: Penn State University Park – Centre County, PA
Completion: Fall 2025
Project Overview
Beaver Stadium, home of Penn State football, is one of the largest stadiums in the country with a capacity of more than 106,000 fans. Electrical contractor Schultheis Electric performs ongoing maintenance and upgrades to help ensure the stadium’s electrical systems operate reliably during major events.
Recent work included maintenance of the North Scoreboard, installation of a new power distribution system for the stadium’s interior ribbon boards, and infrastructure improvements that allow the facility to operate during colder weather.
Electricians maintain and test the stadium’s scoreboard systems before each home game to ensure the display operates properly for fans, teams, and broadcasters
What the Electrical Work Supported
Electricians maintain and test the stadium’s scoreboard systems before each home game to ensure the display operates properly for fans, teams, and broadcasters
The project also included installing new electrical infrastructure for the stadium’s ribbon boards and adding heat trace systems to sanitary water and drain lines. These upgrades help protect critical building systems from freezing and allow the stadium to remain operational during winter events.
Community Impact
Beaver Stadium hosts some of the largest sporting events in Pennsylvania, with more than 106,000 fans attending games and events. Reliable electrical systems ensure that scoreboards, displays, and facility systems function properly during these major gatherings.
The winterization improvements also expand the stadium’s ability to host events outside the traditional football season.
Cool fact
Historically, Beaver Stadium had to be “winterized” like a camper each year, shutting down water systems until warm weather returned. After recent upgrades, the stadium hosted its first-ever outdoor hockey game in January 2026, when Penn State faced Michigan State in front of more than 70,000 fans.
