PROJECT OVERVIEW
Schultheis Electric completed the electrical infrastructure for the new facility, including a 15-kilovolt medium-voltage electrical service and generator backup system.
The electrical systems provide reliable power for the air-supported structure and its operations during the winter practice season.
WHAT THE ELECTRICAL WORK SUPPORTED
Penn State's athletic facilities support student-athletes throughout the year while allowing practices and training to continue despite Central Pennsylvania's winter weather. Projects like this help universities maximize the use of their athletic programs and facilities year-round.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Penn State University constructed a new Indoor Practice Air Supporting Structure (IPASS), an air-supported athletic facility designed to provide year-round practice space for student-athletes. The seasonal structure is installed during the winter months and removed when outdoor practice facilities become available.
The project also included new artificial turf and backup generator capabilities to help ensure the facility remains operational during use.
COOL FACT
Unlike a traditional building, the IPASS is a seasonal air-supported structure that is installed for the winter months and removed approximately every six months when outdoor practice fields can once again be used.
